In-School Events
New Mills Firemen came to visit, with one of their fire engines! They spoke to children in year 2 and year 6 about fire hazards and avoiding danger from fire. All children at school were able to have a look at the fire engine. The firemen showed us what equipment the truck carries and what clothing they have to wear.
Children in year 5 and 6 spent a morning with a visiting drama company who put on a workshop entitled 'Trashtown Mystery'. They learnt about the importance of recycling and preserving our planet.
During the Spring Term we thoroughly enjoyed a visit from some children of New Moston Primary School. They brought their steel pansand performed to us. Mr Sinclair, their steel pan tutor, then stayed on to take each class at Hague Bar for a workshop on the steel pans. It was a fantastic day; we hope New Moston can stay a little longer next time!
We all dressed up in the style of the period of history we were studying. Class 1 came as soldiers and nurses from the Crimea War. Class 2 dressed up as evacuees from World War II. Class 3 came as children in the Victorian times, and Class 4 came dressed as children of the 1960s. The teachers dressed up too!
Every summer, as well as attending many inter-schools sports event in the High Peak area, we hold our own Hague Bar Sports Day. The children work in mixed-age groups and complete a number of fun activities. There is fresh fruit and fruit squash, half-way through the afternoon and an ice-choc at the end...yum!
We enjoyed a visit from Bob and Cathy, who entertained us on the Bassoon and Double Bass and taught us a little about music along the way!
We enjoyed a puppet show. There were so many different marionettes. Robbie had a go at using one but had to stand on a chair because the puppet was so tall! We all had a go at making a puppet for world book day.
Class 3 received a visit from a Viking! They had lots of questions to ask!
